Wind Energy Assessments in the Northern Romanian Coastal Environment Based on 20 Years of Data Coming from Different Sources

Based on the fact that wind speed tends to increase as we go from onshore offshore, aim of this work is perform an analysis a Romanian coastal sector located near Danube Delta. Over course 20 years (2001–2020), in situ observations and reanalysis data (ERA5 MERRA-2) local conditions were evaluated meteorological renewable point view. This evaluation includes two sites (Galati Tulcea), one site shoreline (Sulina) also offshore defined at 64 126 km coastline. From comparison with measurements, it was found ERA5 shows better agreement sites, while for Sulina MERRA-2 more accurate. Additionally, highlighted by using only four values per day (00:06:12:18 UTC), average similar hourly data. As turbine performance (hub height 100 m), case downtime period much higher during night (up 63%) compared 23% indicated ones entire day.
